What We Stand For
The Abu Dhabi Keynesian Society is a UAE-wide student economics society, based in Abu Dhabi and open to students across the country with a genuine interest in economics. We exist to create a space where students can learn, teach, and exchange ideas — rigorously, openly, and with intellectual seriousness.
Membership is selective — for students currently studying economics or seriously considering an economics career. Applications are reviewed by the Society's officers. Our essay competitions and debates, however, are open citywide regardless of membership.
John Maynard Keynes
The Society takes its name and intellectual grounding from John Maynard Keynes, whose work reshaped twentieth-century economic thought and laid the foundations of modern macroeconomics. Keynes challenged the orthodoxies of his time, demonstrating that markets alone are insufficient to guarantee full employment, stable growth, or equitable outcomes.
We align ourselves with mixed-economy ideology — the view that markets and government each have a necessary role in a healthy economy. This is not a partisan position; it is an analytical one, grounded in evidence and the history of economic thought.
